A while back, I met up with boudoir photographer Emily Brault in downtown Phoenix for some branding photos and had the best time! Emily has been a friend for a while now and I even interviewed her for my Engaged In AZ YouTube channel! Enjoy her interview and then check out her YT feature at the bottom of this post!

Tell me a little about what you do:
I’m a boudoir photographer in Phoenix, AZ. I adore my job. Not only do I get to be creative day in and out, but I help improve the confidence of women around me. It’s so rewarding.
What made you decide to go down the road to creative entrepreneurship?
I’ve wanted to be a photographer since before I graduated high school. My parents advised me to get a degree in something and not go down the entrepreneurial path. Well, years later, I have a degree in English literature, but I still couldn’t help but take my own path in business. I love being my own boss, and more importantly, being creative.
What advice can you share with other creatives who are struggling?
Just keep swimming… Lol. The truth is that if it were easy, everyone would do it, right? You have to push yourself and never give up. There will always be struggle, but if you truly love what you do, keep working hard. You’ll get there.
What’s a favorite inspiring quote of yours?
I struggle with anxiety sometimes, so I heard this quote and I really loved it.
“If you’re depressed, you’re living in the past. If you’re anxious, you’re living in the future. If you live in the present, you’ll be at peace.”
Now, it may not be word for word quote, but I really love this. Sometimes as a business owner, I have difficulty with work/life balance. I love to work, but I forget to live and be in the moment, specifically with my family. It’s good to be present, otherwise you’re not really living.
Can you share a favorite marketing tip with us?
I don’t have any special marketing tip. Maybe just to show up and be consistent. Also treat your customers well! Word of mouth is one of the most valuable routes of growing your business.
What are your five favorite things right now?
Orange Theory, Netflix, Baking, Reading, and holiday candles.
What song do you listen to when you need to get motivated?
I don’t have a specific go-to song but I love to listen to 90’s alternative rock when I have long editing days.
Who do you love to follow?
I follow many home decor ladies on Instagram and way too many boudoir photographers. Lol. I also love following some male celebrities cause… it’s fun.
