Growing From a Fauxtographer and my First Photo Session.

The email went something like this:

“Hi! I recently got a camera and wanted to see if I could maybe please, if you would be interested, maybe I can practice on your kids? I think I want to be a photographer. It wouldn’t cost you anything and I just think your kids are so cute and let me know if you’re interested, if not that’s ok because I know you’re busy but I really need cute kids to practice on.”

Mindys Garden

I have always loved flowers but today I had the pleasure of spending time with someone who shows she loves flowers by caring for them.  Mindy asked me to come help her photograph her garden, in particular the tulips, because they won’t last much longer.  These beautiful tulips got their start in Holland where they thrive in a cool climate.  So when the little things arrived, Mindy had to refrigerate them for a period of ten weeks so they would think they were still enjoying a cold Holland winter. At the end of ten weeks they were ready to be planted. No doubt she prepared and nourished the soil that was to be their home, then with great care she planted and daily tended the flowers. They are now in full bloom and she has the pleasure of their company for a few short months.

Photo Safari at Huntington Library

If you find yourself in Southern California, do yourself a big favor and go to Huntington Library. The grounds are stunning and you can spend all day wandering around soaking in the scenery. And learning. There’s that too. The Huntington Gardens are dotted with beautiful museums and indoor gardens to experience different climates. And, of course, what a lovely place for a photo safari.

Pinterest Junkie

Confession: I spend far too much time on Pinterest. It’s my Go-To website for breaks and lunch. It’s my Chicken Soup for my online soul. If you’re on there, come find me because I will rock your feed. And then I’ll follow you too. And then we will read quotes, design our dream homes, drool over them Hemsworth brothers and refuse to admit how much we relate to ECards.

5×5

I saw a pin on Pinterest that caught my attention. They were square prints in black and white with a little white border. They reminded me of some prints my grandmother has scattered throughout albums and random boxes. I ordered some in wedding images with the intention of stringing them along a twine length attached by little clothespins. Maybe I’m too addicted to Pinterest. And maybe that’s not a bad thing. ;)

I Bake

If you’ve read my bio, you know I’m obsessive. I tend to over-think, over-plan, over-care. I’m over-passionate. Today, to de-stress, I turned to baking. My mom and I laughed about how I was an overly concerned, obsessed child and how I am the same now. We talked about how I use my passionate personality in the weddings I shoot today. That I over-care about capturing the most important day of my bride and grooms life. That I pour my heart into my photos and do whatever it takes to deliver the absolute best wedding images. And as we laughed, de-stressed and talked, we baked.

Keslie’s Bridal Shower

I believe it is impossible to have a bad day when you go to a Bridal Shower. (Except my first bridal shower when I was three. They did the gift exchange game and I cried when someone took my gift.) Kelsie’s shower was yesterday and what a beautiful afternoon we had! In Arizona, the summer edge is fading and we all gathered in Kelsie’s mothers beautiful backyard for food, conversation, gifts, and celebration. An Ombre style three tier cake adorned with purple flowers was created by the Maid of Honor, Chelsea.

Saturday Lunch

Today was a perfect Saturday because it was lazy, calm and because I got to have lunch with two Dk brides (a title I’m now using). Chelsea and Kelsie are each others Maid of Honor and shopping, eating and talking with them this afternoon was absolutely lovely!

Your Heart

I am fortunate enough to know exactly where and what my heart is at all times. To know who I’ve given it to. To know where to find it always. This week is going to be about reflection and peace. On focusing on my heart and the places I let my mind wander. This week will be about finding joy in the fact that I am so blessed to photograph so many people with their heart. And maybe, next week will be about finding my heart in a new place.

AllStar

With enthusiastic encouragement from my dear man friend, I signed Kayden up for a Sports Camp. Basketball camp was one week long for one hour a day and I have never felt the need to protect more than these hours.
