What did you use to build your website?
I get this question a lot…like, a lot.
I first started using Showit way back when. In fact, at the time, it wasn’t even a website builder, it was a slideshow software built primarily for photographers. Since Showit is based in Arizona, I’ve been very lucky to see the company grow over the years, and I’ve always really loved their company culture. They invest in their community, in their team, in their users, through events and education, and I’ve always felt like their compass was in supporting small business owners. I signed up for a Showit site the second I was able to in my business, and I never looked back. In 2014, I began going to Showit United, their annual conference for photographers, and was able to experience some of my best memories as a photographer in that space.
Beyond my starry eyes for this company, the website builder is far and away the best one I’ve worked with, and I’ve worked with so many. For nine years, I worked at a popular domain registrar and website hosting company. I’ve watched website builders come and go, website trends change, and I’ve watched business owners struggle against platforms that simply wouldn’t allow them to make the site they had envisioned. It seemed like every platform was trying to squeeze everyone into the same box using the same ten templates.
There are a lot of website builders out there, and plenty of them can make a perfectly nice website, but what I love about the Showit platform is how much creative freedom it gives you. They’re a drag-and-drop style builder, but not in the sense that you’re rearranging a handful of predetermined blocks. They work in layers, which kind of speaks to their early days of marketing to photographers since photography software like Photoshop also works in layers.
One of the things I’ve also appreciated after all these years is that Showit hasn’t stopped evolving. The internet changes, new trends emerge, and they’ve continued to invest in their platform so that people building on it are always able to keep up.
