New Blog Design

It’s looking GORGEOUS up in here!!! I’m so excited to officially launch my new blog! So can I share the process with you?

I had a pretty standard blog for a few years… like…FOUR YEARS… my blog scrolled aaaaaand that was about it. It had some social icons on the right and the search bar didn’t work but it kept my stuff housed. I had always wanted a more interactive blog but didn’t have the resources to hire a designer. This is what it looked like:

I finally shopped online to find a theme that I liked. I found one, I purchased it and… it wouldn’t let me install to my site! In fact, my blog straight up broke. I contacted Showit, my website and hosting provider and learned they don’t allow third party themes and that theme design could to be done within the Showit Designer. Okay. I had some experience with using Showit but not using Showit WITH WordPress and the thought of delving into a new software was kind of daunting. But I poked around, I designed canvas by canvas and by the end of the first day, I had a page that looked like this:

LOL what?! The logo is cut off and the newsletter sign up looked like something I had built in Word. Awesome. Frustrated with my own design brain, I went to bed and decided to start fresh and early in the morning. I decided that when I woke up, I wouldn’t make any rules for myself… I would forget what I had heard about design and blogging and should’s and shouldn’ts and do’s and don’t’s and I would just create a page, piece by piece, that I would like if I were a visitor.

I thought I *should* have a wedding photo in the banner, but in the end, I liked a photo I had taken of clouds on a wedding day in that space better.

I thought I *should* have a professional photo of me as my profile photo, but I ended up using a selfie I snapped on my cell phone.

By the end of that day I had, more or less, a completed design. There were a few technical kinks I had to work out and over the next several days, I worked through them with the help of Showit’s awesome support team and now I am so endlessly happy with my blog! I have a blog that the theme I had initially purchased would never have looked like and am so excited to have this blog makeover to share with you!

Let me know what you think in the comments! I’d love to hear from you!
