Five Show Recommendations If You’re Stuck Inside

Coronavirus coronavirus coronavirus coronavirus? Coronavirus coronavirus coronavirus coronavirus. Coronavirus! Coronavirus coronavirus coronavirus. Coronavirus coronavirus.

Is that what your feed is looking like these days? MINE TOO! What a coincidence! So while we are all sharing hand washing tips, songs that last 20 seconds, and our favorite activities to combat cabin fever, I thought I’d throw something in just for you! Here are the five shows I recommend to all my friends:

  1. Mr. Robot
If you believe we are living in the end times, this show is for you! Our hero is Elliot Alderson, an anti-social genius hacker who is sick of seeing his fellow humans so focused on Instagram likes and Unicorn Lattes while corporate giants are getting away with murder. Elliot dons a black cloak, er, hoodie, and plans to save the world from his computer.

What I love about it:
This show definitely appeals to that pessimistic side we all have when it comes to social media and “keeping up with the Joneses.” Elliot is flawed but lovable and even pulls you in as an inner voice that he talks to which does a great job of making you feel like you’re Elliot’s BFF. (Really, Raffi and I watched the Golden Globes this year and when Rami Malek walked out on stage, I expected a voiceover to say, “Are you seeing this?”) There are really well done plot twists that keep you guessing and really, who doesn’t love that? Plus when it comes to a revolution, I think we’ve all wondered, “What if?”

2. Good Omens
Was there supposed to be an Armageddon by now? Is it possible something else happened? Earth was given an angel, Aziraphale, and a demon, Crowley and after so many millennia on Earth, the two have become rather attached to human life and are considering forming an alliance in an attempt to stop the pending doom that is Armageddon.

What I love about it:
It’s genuinely different. Not just the gorgeous visuals and the fabulous acting, but the storyline is truly fantastic. There’s always been heaven and hell, angels and demons, but no one ever offers the idea of humanity as a third player. That while we’re stuck somewhere in between, we have also been given the power to choose between right and wrong, good and evil, peace and chaos. This series is only six episodes long so it’s not a huge time commitment and it’s well worth watching!

3. Crazy Ex Girlfriend
It’s time for a musical! Wildly successful New York Lawyer, Rebecca Bunch is offered a partnership at her prestigious law firm and suddenly decides to pack up and move to California to chase an old flame. While adjusting to life at a mid level law firm and trying to do her best to not appear as desperate as she might seem, Rebecca and her friends will break out into parody driven song and dance that will make your musical heart flutter.

What I love about it:
It’s clever. It’s incredibly funny and wonderfully curated for those of us who will get the occasional Music Man or Les Mis reference. It also appeals to that vulnerable side of us that has come out at one point or another in our youth… the part that comes off as needy but really just wants to be loved. You know what I’m talking about. This one is also good because you really just need to watch the first episode to know if you love it or hate it. This isn’t one of those shows where I tell you, “It gets REALLY good in season 3!”

4.  Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Do you love laughing? Me too! After being kept in a bunker since her early teen years, Kimmy is finally rescued and attempts to build a normal life for herself in NYC. In episode 1, she finds my favorite comedic character of all time, Titus Andromedon and hilarity ensues.

What I love about it:
TITUS! I LOOOOOVE Titus. I love Titus so much that he’s my Netflix user icon. This show it funny, quick paced, ironic, and there’s also sometimes a little sumthin’ built in for musical lovers!

5.  Doctor Who
Okay, this is a massive time commitment… I’m almost asking you to make a lifestyle change by watching this show, but it’s the BEST one. An alien Time Lord who goes by “The Doctor” travels through time and space with a human companion at his side, saving worlds and exploring planets. Parts of it are terrible cheesy… and the special effects in season one are straight out of 2005. But the heart of the show is just brilliant. So for this one, I’m recommending a hook episode. Watch episode 10 in Season 3 entitled “Blink” and decide what you think from there.

What I love about it:
It genuinely changed my whole heart. You can find my favorite quote at the bottom of each page of my website and you can read a whole blog post I wrote on this show here!
