The best advice I can give to a couple who is planning their wedding is to hire people who are great at what they do and who are passionate about their work. There’s nothing like having an rough vision of what you want and seeing it come together in an impossibly perfect way. A few months ago I had an idea for a vintage style road trip elopement shoot. I threw together a small Pinterest board and contacted the incredible Chelsi Lemons of Two Lemons in Love to style the shoot. I also contacted Matt from Roscoe and Louie and Jesse Jo from Freed Hands and were over the moon that they were on board. Matt brought his 1954 Chevrolet Belair out to the desert and Jesse Jo sent us the most exquisite hand lettered announcements. The bride and I went to find a dress at Suzannes bridal and were thrilled at the pieces they had chosen for us based on our Pinterest board. We went with the very first one she tried on. The brides makeup and hair was done by Kristina and Johanna Patterson, two teenage twins who blew me away with their talent and skillful ability to work together. Seeing hair and makeup done at the same time so meticulously isn’t common. It was fantastic seeing those two work their magic. Chelsi chose the grooms shirt and bow tie and created the Just Married sign for the back of the car. She brought a dresser from the 1950’s and decorated it with the sweetest travel themed details. To say she rocked this shoot would be an understatement.
When planning a wedding, it can get overwhelming. You can start with a vision and end up with something that looks all wrong. Or you can change your mind half way through and find yourself starting over every other month. People who will take your ideas and translate it into a beautiful reality are priceless.
I want a vintage car, a bride in a tea length dress, a groom in a bowtie and the desert. Maybe a vintage suitcase and a just married sign?
That was my “idea” and Chelsi, Matt, Jesse Jo, Kristina, Johanna and Suzanne gave me this:

Hey. Do you mind if I tell you a story? One you might not have heard. All the elements in your body were forged many many millions of years ago in the heart of a faraway star that exploded and died. That explosion scattered those elements across the desolations of deep space. After so, so many millions of years, these elements came together to form new stars and new planets. And on and on it went. The elements came together and burst apart, forming shoes and ships and sealing wax and cabbages and kings. Until, eventually, they came together to make you. You are unique in the universe. There is only one of you. And there will never be another.
